Synopsis

CADENCE comes from a WASPy, old-money, stiff-upper-lip family. They’re so wealthy that they own a private island, where they have built four houses: Claremont, Cuddletown, Red Gate, and Windemere. Cadence’s grandparents, HARRIS and TIPPER, control most of the family wealth and live in Claremont. Cadence’s mom PENNY has two sisters (Aunt CARRIE and Aunt BESS) who’s two children JOHNNY and MIRREN are Cadence’s best friends. The three cousins of the elite Sinclair family from strong bonds exploring the island and coming of age together and the adults nickname them ‘The Liars’. When Cadence is 8, Carrie brings a new boyfriend (having been abandoned by her husband while pregnant with her second child) ED. Ed is of Indian descent, which unsettles the Sinclair clan. He also brings along his 8-year-old nephew GAT PATIL, also of Indian descent, to stay with them. When Cadence is 15, a traumatic event occurs. From what people tell her, Cadence learns that she was discovered in the water, stripped down to her underwear, with hypothermia. She now suffers from debilitating migraines and has forgotten huge chunks of the year. But she can’t remember what happened, and nobody will talk to her about it. Questions are deflected, and she is told “it’s better if you remember it yourself.” Two years later, the other “Liars” (Johnny, Gat, Mirren) re-emerge to prompt Cadence to remember the incident.
