Synopsis

With the landing of Allied forces in Sicily on the night of July 9-10, 1943, the southern front was successfully breached. Although the numerically inferior Wehrmacht units fought with great skill, they were unable to halt the Allied advance-which continued until the Allies finally reached the Rhine border at Remagen, following numerous embarrassing blunders and heavy losses.
