Synopsis

The Battle of Okinawa was pivotal to the final phase of World War II in the Far East. The capture of the island by U.S. troops opened up the possibility of launching large-scale attacks on the Japanese mainland using four-engine B-29 long-range bombers. The Japanese were well aware of this. A brutal battle, fought with every means at their disposal, erupted over the gateway to the Land.
