Synopsis

Arnold became Commander-in-Chief of the U.S. Army Air Forces. He focused on strengthening the air forces. He also assumed command of the 20th U.S. Air Fleet, which included the B-29 long-range bombers that bombed Japan. In December 1944, Arnold was promoted to General of the Army. This made him the fourth and only member of the Army Air Forces to hold that rank.
