Synopsis

In a remote Chinese mountain village, a teacher named Gao must leave school for a month to tend to his ailing mother. Desperate to find a substitute teacher who will take the low paying job in the remote village school, the mayor of the town can only locate a thirteen-year-old girl, Wei Minzhi, to fill in. The teacher makes Minzhi an offer of extra money if there is not one student missing...
